The Pista'y Dayat has grown from its beginnings as a thanksgiving celebration to nature's blessings, to a full-fledged tourism event which attracts thousands of visitors every year. Falling on the 1st of May, Pangasinenses and out-of-towners simply cannot make their Labor Day complete without a visit to the beach. And Pangasinan has an entire coastline of beaches of every conceivable character and ambiance, from the white sandy beach stretches of the west to Lingayen beach with its offerings of history and culture.
While the Provincial Government has tapped this event to be its summer centerpeice attraction to generate tourist revenue, the feel of this often week-long affair is casual and relaxed. Typical festival events like pageants and concerts are comfortably spaced between days where the harried tourist can simply browse among "tiangges" or visit the trade and tourism fairs for bargains and interesting local items.
One can say that the Pista'y Dayat has been elevated to a modern showcase of Pangasinan culture without having lost that distinct warm and homey hospitality that Pangasinenses are known for.
To all yearly visitors for the Pista'y Dayat, our sincerest and warmest welcome!
